The plot of two short novels Daulbayt (1971) and Maryud (1976) under the common title Bаndаrshah is a continuation of the author’s treating of life in the village of Vad Hamid with numerous already known heroes or their descendants, forming a rounded romanesque story with previous novels Wedding of Zayn and The Season of Migration to the North. Tayib Salih considered Bandarshah his most important work, in which Sudanese society is experiencing a dangerous crisis on the brink of chaos, where mythical personalities and mystical events leave unresolved the question of catharsis.
